History

The beginning

Chris Wells founded X-Bikes in 1996 with the help of his father, Dave Wells. Motorsport had always figured high in the household during Chris’ childhood, so it came as no surprise when he decided to train as a mechanic after leaving school. With his father’s engineering and race experience from the sixties on both bikes and cars such as the Ford GT40, the decision for father and son to team up proved to be an easy one. In 1996 with the help of his parents, Chris set up X-bikes working from the family home in London.

In 2001 X-bikes moved into its first commercial premises and purchased a dyno. As knowledge was gained, a reputation for getting good results from engine tuning, carburettor set-up and advanced engine and ignition mapping was earned.

Chris’s love of the Supermotard genre, led to a reputation for consistent results on KTM machines. With X-bikes being based in London, this proved to be good for business as the bikes were ideal for inner city riding and the Supermotard market was growing. To this day, the KTM still features heavily as one of the manufacturers that X-bikes specialises in.

X-Bikes knowledge and passion for this type of machine eventually led to the opportunity of going racing. This came about in 2004 after X-bikes relocated from North London to Wisbech in Cambridgeshire.
